CSSS ORGANIZES WORKSHOP ON NUTRITIONAL SECURITY

Catholic Social Service Society (CSSS) organized a workshop on Nutritional Security at Fatima Convent School, Bishna. Dr. Sumit Kour, Physiotherapist at Government Hospital, Gandinagar was the Chief Guest. Dr Shervinder Kour, Rehabilitation Coordinator at CSSS welcomed the resource person, Dr. Sumit (Physiotherapist), Fr. Shaiju Chacko the director of CSSS and all the children
Dr. Sumit Kour enlightened the parents about the different techniques to feed children affected by Cerebral Palsy, Mental Retardation, Muscular Dystrophies, Epilepsy, Down syndrome and Poliomyelitis. She emphasized on hygiene at home and laid stress on washing their hands before feeding their children. “A clean and serene atmosphere plays an important role in the mental, emotional and physical development of children”, she stated.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Shervinder Kour explained about the nutritional demands of expectant mothers. She emphasized on the importance of a balanced diet to prevent birth defects in infants. As in the present time the ratio of congenital birth defects is soaring high, she counselled and guided the parents of the children how such defects can be prevented in the antenatal period.

As part of its effort to support children in their nutritional needs CSSS distributed nutritional supplements in the form of multi vitamins and B complex syrups. Participants in the workshop included children from villages near Bishna and St. John’s Rehabilitation Centre, Mandal. Others present at the workshop included Fr. Shaiju Chacko, the Director of CSSS, Fr. Robin Cerejo, the Manager of Fatima Convent School, Sr. Vinaya, the Principal, Sr. Annet, the Coordinator of St. John’s Rehabilitation Centre, Mrs. Geeta Devi, the Community Mobilizer and community animators of CSSS. Fr. Christope, the Asst. Director proposed the vote of thanks and appreciated the parents for their cooperation.
